What it is: AdditiveMany 19th century recipes specifically called for white sugar, which is more refined and preferred over browner sugars. But modern white sugar is probably too refined, making raw cane sugar the best, easily available choice.

(Use large bar glass.)
Ingredient: Catawba wine
What it is: WineAmerican wine grown from the Catawba grape, predominantly on the East Coast of the U.S.. This purplish-red grape has a rather sweet and a pronounced musky or "foxy" flavor.
Fill tumbler with shaved ice, and ornament with sliced orange and berries in season. Place a straw as described in the sherry cobbler.
