1 1/2 table-spoon sugar

What it is:  Additive
Many 19th century recipes specifically called for white sugar, which is more refined and preferred over browner sugars. But modern white sugar is probably too refined, making raw cane sugar the best, easily available choice.

Also Known As:  Riesling What it is:  Wine
Germany produces wines in many style, but wines from along the Rhine river valley been predominantly white, slightly sweet, low in alcohol, light and un-oaked.

(Use a large bar glass.)

Fill the glass with shaved ice. Stir up well with a spoon; ornament with grapes, orange, pineapple, strawberries, in season, and serve with a straw.
