Ingredient: ice

What it is:  Additive
The new general availability of ice in the mid 1800s revolutionized bar-tending and drinking. Ice was delivered in blocks that then had to to be broken, crushed, picked and shaved for increasingly popular individual drinks (as opposed to large punches).

Substitution:  bitter

1 jigger Schiedam gin

Ingredient: Schiedam gin

What it is:  Gin

A Jenever (gin) from the city of Schiedam in the province of South Holland in the Netherlands. It is known its historical center with its canals, and the tallest old windmills in the world.

Substitution:  gin (Jenever)

What it is:  Fruit
Common name for Citrus limon.
