Gin Punch

Also called Holland Gin or Genever, it is a juniper-flavored and strongly alcoholic traditional liquor of the Netherlands, Belgium and Northern France, from which gin evolved.

1 fifth maraschino

Ingredient: maraschino

What it is:  Liqueur
Bittersweet, clear liqueur flavored with Marasca cherries, which are grown in Dalmatia, Croatia, mostly around the city of Zadar and in Torreglia (near Padua in Northern Italy).

4 fl ounce simple syrup

Ingredient: simple syrup

Also Known As:  sugar syrup What it is:  Syrup
Simple 1:1 or 2:1 ratio of sugar and water, boiled then cooled. Used an efficient substitute when drinks call for dissolving sugar; has the added benefit of not diluting the drink. Better flavor comes from using raw cane sugar even though it makes darker syrup than very refined white sugar.

Also Known As:  soda water, sparkling water, fizzy water What it is:  Additive
Water which is carbonated and thus made effervescent by the addition of carbon dioxide gas under pressure. In 1767 Englishman Joseph Priestley invented soda water, also known as Carbonated water, when he first discovered a method of infusing water with carbon dioxide when he suspended a bowl of water above a beer vat at a local brewery in Leeds, England.
